MrCool is made by MRCOOL, LLC (incorporated in Tennessee in 2014 by Doug and Jason Ingram. ENERGY STAR lists 110 MrCool outdoor models certified for the US, 77 of them cold-climate, and its best certified pairing heats at a COP of 2.44 at 5°F.

Registration: Not applicable for DIY 5th Gen and Olympus ('no registration required')
Labour: None on DIY and Olympus. Universal Split: 2 years (from day 91). Central Ducted Hyper Heat: 10 years (installer covers the first 90 days). GeoCool: 5 years.

Strengths and watch-outs
Strengths
- Genuine homeowner-install option: DIY 5th Gen is 'designed for full homeowner installation' with pre-charged Quick Connect line sets ('No license, no technicians')
- No registration needed for the DIY and Olympus warranties (5 years parts / 7 years compressor)
- Cold-climate ducted choices: Central Ducted Hyper Heat 2nd Gen (ENERGY STAR Cold Climate, heats to -22°F, 10/10/10 warranty) and Universal Split (100% capacity at -13°F)
- Unusually wide range for an online brand, including packaged and geothermal (GeoCool: 10-year parts, 5-year labour)
Watch-outs
- DIY and Olympus get no labour cover, and MRCOOL may require a licensed technician's written diagnosis before honouring a claim
- Terms differ sharply by line: 5/7 years on DIY and Olympus vs 10/10 on Universal and Central Ducted Hyper Heat. Universal Split states 'The services of a professional installer ARE required'.
- A DIY install keeps the DIY warranty only if done to the instructions and local codes (permits, electrical). Rebate rules on self-installation were not verified.
Which rebates MrCool models fit
Every model in these tables is ENERGY STAR certified, which is the federal equipment rule for the Home Electrification and Appliance Rebates where your state runs them. 77 MrCool outdoor models also meet ENERGY STAR Cold Climate, which several utility programs require. The 25C tax credit ended for heat pumps placed in service after December 31, 2025.
