EnerGuide home evaluation

Also called: EnerGuide evaluation · EnerGuide assessment · EnerGuide home energy evaluation · EnerGuide report

Canada's official home energy audit: a registered energy advisor inspects and tests your home, then gives you an EnerGuide rating and an upgrade report.

What it means

You book through a service organization, and an energy advisor registered with NRCan measures the house, records the insulation, windows, doors, and heating, cooling, hot water and ventilation equipment, and runs a blower door test. The data go into NRCan's HOT2000 software to produce your EnerGuide rating and label and a report of recommended upgrades. Programs that pay for upgrades often require one evaluation before the work and another after.

Why it matters in an audit

Many rebate programs and some city loans, such as Toronto's HELP, need an evaluation before any work starts, so book it first.

Typical numbers

Reference values with their sources. Your energy advisor’s report gives the figure for your own house.
