Pre- and post-retrofit evaluations ("D" and "E" evaluations)
Also called: pre-retrofit evaluation · post-retrofit evaluation · pre-retrofit EnerGuide evaluation · post-retrofit EnerGuide evaluation · D evaluation · E evaluation
The EnerGuide evaluation done before upgrades (a 'D' file) and the one done after (an 'E' file), used to verify the work for rebates.
What it means
The pre-retrofit evaluation records your home's starting point and recommends upgrades; the post-retrofit evaluation, by the same service organization, confirms what was done and re-rates the house. NRCan's EnerGuide data labels existing-home evaluations as D (pre-retrofit) and E (post-retrofit) files.
Why it matters in an audit
Programs that use evaluations pay only once the work is confirmed in the post-retrofit evaluation, and they set firm deadlines for it.
Typical numbers
Reference values with their sources. Your energy advisor’s report gives the figure for your own house.
