NRCan (Natural Resources Canada)

Also called: RNCan · Office of Energy Efficiency

The federal department that built Canada's home energy programs, like EnerGuide; its efficiency office moved to Environment and Climate Change Canada in 2026.

What it means

NRCan's Office of Energy Efficiency created the EnerGuide Rating System and HOT2000 software, licenses service organizations, registers energy advisors and ran the Canada Greener Homes programs. Control of the Office of Energy Efficiency was transferred to Environment and Climate Change Canada (ECCC) effective July 30, 2026, and program pages say they're transitioning. Many of those pages still sit on NRCan's website.

Why it matters in an audit

Official EnerGuide evaluations and federal home programs still run on NRCan-built systems, so you'll see the name on reports, product lists and rebate rules.
