How these calculators work

The numbers come from public sources we checked on October 8, 2026: NRCan's HOT2000 climate data and heating tables, Environment and Climate Change Canada's climate normals, utility rate schedules, Statistics Canada fuel prices, provincial fire codes and rebate program pages. Each page lists its sources.

Where a number has to be assumed, such as how much insulation a 1970s attic has, the calculator says so and lets you change it. Savings use the price of one more unit of energy, without fixed charges, which keeps them on the low side. An EnerGuide evaluation measures your house and replaces those assumptions.
