Warranty
Registration: Same US/Canada terms: on VXP, the first-year compressor credit shrinks to 90 days if the unit isn't registered within 60 days
Labour: Not covered, apart from the $300 compressor-failure allowance (VXP)
The 10-year parts warranty (including the compressor) still applies. On VXP systems, registering within 60 days gives a first-year compressor-failure unit credit plus a $300 labour allowance; unregistered units get it only for failures within 90 days of purchase.
Strengths and watch-outs
Strengths
- 10-year parts warranty including the compressor on current VXP and VHP lines, valid in the US and Canada
- Very broad range from one maker: cold-weather ducted (VXP, operation to -22°F), ultra-efficient ductless (ZHP up to 35 SEER2), packaged, window, PTAC and geothermal
- Long-established maker (Heat Controller cites nearly 100 years in HVAC)
Watch-outs
- Labour isn't covered beyond a $300 allowance on some compressor claims
- VHP warranty is void for units bought over the internet, and coverage requires a complete matched system
- Register VXP systems within 60 days to keep the first-year compressor replacement credit
- Some listed lines (e.g., VCD) still use R-410A; the US no longer allows new R-410A split systems, so confirm the refrigerant on any quote
Which rebates Comfort-Aire and Century models fit
124 Comfort-Aire and Century outdoor models meet the cold-climate numbers NRCan publishes for its Eligible Products List (COP of at least 1.8 at −15°C at full output, 70% of rated capacity, a variable-speed compressor) on their ENERGY STAR ratings. That list decides Ontario's Home Renovation Savings rebate, Manitoba's, New Brunswick's, Yukon's and Newfoundland and Labrador's, and the federal National Heat Pump Rebate expected in early 2027. Check the exact pairing on NRCan's list ↗.
121 models meet ENERGY STAR Cold Climate, which earns Quebec's higher LogisVert rate. BC uses its own qualified list. Rebate rules by province:
