RESNET HERS rater

Also called: HERS rater · HERS raters · RESNET rater · certified home energy rater · home energy rater · RESNET

A professional certified through RESNET, the Residential Energy Services Network, to inspect, test and model homes and issue HERS Index scores.

What it means

HERS raters review plans, inspect insulation and air sealing, run blower door and duct leakage tests and produce the HERS Index score. Candidates pass a national exam and complete supervised ratings, and final certification comes from a RESNET-accredited Rating Provider.

Why it matters in an audit

Raters often verify new homes for energy codes and programs such as ENERGY STAR and DOE Efficient New Homes, so they're the professionals behind most HERS scores you'll see.

Typical numbers
