Inflation Reduction Act (IRA)
Also called: IRA rebates · IRA tax credits · Inflation Reduction Act of 2022
The 2022 US law that created state-run home energy rebates and expanded home energy tax credits, which a 2025 law later cut short.
What it means
The IRA funded $8.8 billion in state-run home energy rebates (HOMES and HEEHR) and expanded the 25C and 25D tax credits from 2023. A 2025 law, the One Big Beautiful Bill Act, ended both tax credits after 2025, but the rebate programs continue in states that have launched them, under revised DOE rules.
Why it matters in an audit
Many 'IRA rebate' and 'IRA tax credit' articles are out of date: the rebates may still be available, but the credits are not for 2026 work.
