ASHRAE

Also called: American Society of Heating, Refrigerating and Air-Conditioning Engineers · ASHRAE Standard 211 · ASHRAE Level 2

An international society of heating, cooling and ventilation engineers whose standards define things like commercial energy audit levels and climate zones.

What it means

ASHRAE (the American Society of Heating, Refrigerating and Air-Conditioning Engineers) has more than 50,000 members. Its Standard 211, co-sponsored by ACCA, sets the procedures for commercial building energy audits at Levels 1, 2 and 3, and its climate data underlie the US energy code's climate zone map.

Why it matters in an audit

For commercial buildings, the ASHRAE audit level in a quote tells you how deep the analysis goes, so compare quotes at the same level.

Typical numbers

Reference values with their sources. Your auditor’s report gives the figure for your own house.
