Warranty
Registration: The same Trane U.S. warranty letter applies in Canada: base 5 years if not registered within 60 days (12-year compressor on the same families as in the US). Trane says registration exclusions vary by province.
Labour: Not in the limited warranty; optional extended plans through the dealer
Base Limited Warranty: 5 years on compressor, outdoor coil and parts if not registered within 60 days of installation. Registered compressor cover is 12 years on 5TWV, 5TWX and the 17/19 low-profile families, and 10 years on 5TWR, 5HPL5 and 5HCL5. In Florida, registration isn't required for home sales from July 1, 2024.
Strengths and watch-outs
Strengths
- New 20 TruComfort Cold Climate (Oct 2026): 100% heating capacity to 5°F and operation to -20°F, backed by about 18,000 hours of field testing (Trane Technologies)
- 12-year registered compressor warranty on variable-speed, WeatherGuard and 17/19 low-profile families (Trane warranty ODR-SVW001A-EN)
- Low-profile cold-climate 16/17/19 line for tight side yards and zero-lot-line homes (Trane, Dec 2025)
- Ductless and ducted mini-splits from Mitsubishi Electric via the METUS joint venture; Hyper-Heating models heat to -13°F (Trane ductless page)
Watch-outs
- 60-day registration deadline; otherwise the base warranty is 5 years
- XV/XR/XL names were retired with the R-454B lineup (2024-25), so older reviews and quotes may cite models no longer built; Trane confirms only that the 15 Single-Stage replaces the XR15
- Not every size meets the '100% at 5°F' headline: Trane's table shows the 5-ton 5TCV0X60 at 87% at 5°F and 60% at -15°F
- No labour in the factory warranty; METUS covers the US and Latin America, and Trane-badged ductless in Canada wasn't verified
Which rebates Trane models fit
37 Trane outdoor models meet the cold-climate numbers NRCan publishes for its Eligible Products List (COP of at least 1.8 at −15°C at full output, 70% of rated capacity, a variable-speed compressor) on their ENERGY STAR ratings. That list decides Ontario's Home Renovation Savings rebate, Manitoba's, New Brunswick's, Yukon's and Newfoundland and Labrador's, and the federal National Heat Pump Rebate expected in early 2027. Check the exact pairing on NRCan's list ↗.
45 models meet ENERGY STAR Cold Climate, which earns Quebec's higher LogisVert rate. BC uses its own qualified list. Rebate rules by province:
