Warranty
Registration: Same terms (the Trane U.S. warranty letter applies in the US and Canada): base 5 years if not registered within 60 days. American Standard says exclusions vary by province.
Labour: Not in the limited warranty; optional extended plans through the dealer
Base Limited Warranty, typically 5 years on compressor, outdoor coil and parts, if not registered within 60 days of installation. Registered compressor cover is 12 years on variable- and multi-speed families (e.g. 5A6V, 5A7V, 5A6H7, 5HCL6, 5HCL9) and 10 years on the rest, per the shared Trane U.S. warranty letter.
Strengths and watch-outs
Strengths
- AccuComfort Platinum 20 Cold Climate (Oct 2026): 100% heating capacity to 5°F and operation to -20°F (Trane Technologies)
- Low-profile cold-climate Platinum 19, Gold 17 and Silver 16 share Trane's 5HCL platform; Platinum 19 and Gold 17 claim 100% of heat down to 5°F
- Same factory warranty as Trane: 12-year registered compressor on variable- and multi-speed families, 10-year parts
- Mitsubishi Electric Hyper-Heating ductless (to -13°F) via the METUS joint venture
Watch-outs
- 60-day registration deadline; otherwise the base warranty is 5 years
- Still lists a 'Quest Cold Climate Heat Pump' (4TXD2) that uses R-410A, so check the refrigerant and build date on any quote
- No labour in the factory warranty
- No dedicated Canadian site; Canadian dealer coverage and ductless availability weren't verified
Which rebates American Standard models fit
58 American Standard outdoor models meet the cold-climate numbers NRCan publishes for its Eligible Products List (COP of at least 1.8 at −15°C at full output, 70% of rated capacity, a variable-speed compressor) on their ENERGY STAR ratings. That list decides Ontario's Home Renovation Savings rebate, Manitoba's, New Brunswick's, Yukon's and Newfoundland and Labrador's, and the federal National Heat Pump Rebate expected in early 2027. Check the exact pairing on NRCan's list ↗.
69 models meet ENERGY STAR Cold Climate, which earns Quebec's higher LogisVert rate. BC uses its own qualified list. Rebate rules by province:
