Strengths and watch-outs
Strengths
- No outdoor unit: the whole system sits indoors, venting through two 8-inch wall openings (adaptable to 6-inch), so it suits condos and facades where condensers aren't allowed
- R-32, with AHRI, ENERGY STAR, NEEP, Passive House and ETL marks on product pages
- Published heating capacity down to -5°F, with optional built-in electric heat (900/1,800 W) and an ERV module
- Wide family from one maker: wall, floor, ceiling, vertical-stack and PTHP-replacement units, plus STØNE air-to-water and LOOP water-source
Watch-outs
- Small capacity (about 9,000 BTU/h nominal) that drops in deep cold (about 5,100 BTU/h at -5°F), so plan one unit per room or backup heat
- Efficiency is below ductless mini-splits (SEER2 13.65-15.7, HSPF2 7.1-8.6)
- The US brand name changed twice (INNOVA 2019, Ephoca 2021, INNOVA 2026); confirm warranty and support for Ephoca-branded units
- INNOVA warns of counterfeit 'copycat' units (innovacopycats.com); buy through authorized channels
