XRF analyzer (lead paint testing)

Also called: XRF · X-ray fluorescence

A handheld X-ray fluorescence instrument that measures lead in paint through the layers, without scraping off samples, during a lead inspection.

What it means

A certified inspector holds the XRF against painted surfaces throughout the home to find where lead-based paint is. It's faster and less damaging than cutting out paint chips for a lab.

Why it matters in an audit

An XRF inspection tells you which windows, doors and trim contain lead before replacement or other upgrades disturb them.
