PNNL (Pacific Northwest National Laboratory)
A US Department of Energy national laboratory whose building research includes the Building America Solution Center and county climate zone data.
What it means
PNNL is one of DOE's national laboratories. It hosts the Building America Solution Center, a free library of building science and testing guides, and publishes the county-by-county climate zone files used with the US energy code.
Why it matters in an audit
When a page cites PNNL for your climate zone or a testing procedure, it's pointing to DOE's own building research.
