NOAA (National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration)

Also called: NCEI · National Centers for Environmental Information

The US weather and climate agency; its National Centers for Environmental Information publish the climate normals and degree-days used for US cities.

What it means

NOAA's National Centers for Environmental Information (NCEI) compile weather station records, many of them at airports, into the 1991–2020 U.S. Climate Normals. These give typical heating and cooling degree-days, temperatures and precipitation for thousands of stations.

Why it matters in an audit

A city's heating and cooling degree-days come from NOAA normals, which is how a page knows whether heating or cooling matters more there.
