EnerGuide label (appliances and equipment)
Also called: EnerGuide appliance label · EnerGuide product label · EnerGuide rating for products · mandatory EnerGuide label
The Canadian label on appliances and some heating, cooling and ventilation equipment that shows a model's energy use or efficiency next to similar models.
What it means
EnerGuide is the Government of Canada's official mark for rating the energy use or efficiency of household appliances, heating and ventilation equipment, air conditioners, houses and vehicles. For products covered by federal rules, the label places the model on a scale against similar models; on a room air conditioner, for example, it gives the CEER efficiency rating, where higher is better. ENERGY STAR models may show the ENERGY STAR symbol on the same label.
Why it matters in an audit
Comparing EnerGuide labels in the store is a quick way to estimate running costs, and it's a different thing from the EnerGuide rating for your home.
