Energy audit companies in Ontario: who's licensed, and how to choose

Search "energy audit companies near me" and you'll get installers, inspectors and engineers all using the same words. In Ontario, the companies that can deliver an official EnerGuide home energy assessment are a defined group — licensed service organizations on NRCan's list — and for the province's rebates, an even smaller one.

Start with the licence

Natural Resources Canada licenses service organizations to deliver EnerGuide evaluations, and each one works with registered energy advisors (NRCan list ↗). If a company isn't on that list, it can't give you an EnerGuide rating, whatever its ads say. As of September 25, 2026, 43 companies had Ontario listings, many with several regional offices. They're all below.

The seven approved for Home Renovation Savings

For Ontario's $600 assessment rebate and the insulation, window and air-sealing rebates that go with it, the assessments must come from one of these seven (program FAQ ↗), with the follow-up done within 180 days of the first visit or by December 31, 2026, whichever comes first:

Community non-profits

Green Communities Canada members and other local non-profits deliver evaluations too, often with published prices (Windfall: $500 and $250 plus HST; Reep: $540 and $406, no HST) and deep local knowledge. They aren't on the Home Renovation Savings list, so their assessments don't earn its $600 rebate, so they're the right choice for financing such as Toronto's HELP loans, heat pump sizing, a pre-purchase rating or your own planning.

Names and phone numbers from NRCan's list of service organizations for existing homes, checked September 25, 2026. Linked names have full profiles in our directory.

Five checks before you book

  1. Is the company on NRCan's list? No licence, no EnerGuide rating.
  2. Do you want the Ontario rebates? Then book one of the seven approved organizations, early enough that the follow-up fits within 180 days and before December 31, 2026.
  3. Get the price for both visits in writing, plus the wait for a first appointment.
  4. Ask what they sell. Some licensed organizations are also inspection or installation businesses. That's allowed, but the recommendations should come with measurements, not a quote attached.
  5. Read independent reviews. Our provider pages link each company's Google, HomeStars and BBB listings.

Common questions

Which energy audit companies are approved for Ontario's Home Renovation Savings program?

Seven: AmeriSpec, Canada Energy Audit, Greenbrain, Energuy, Energy Werx, NRGwise and The Home Inspectors Group. Only their assessments qualify for the $600 assessment rebate and the related insulation, window and air-sealing rebates.

How do I check that an energy auditor is legitimate?

Look the company up on NRCan's list of licensed service organizations for existing homes. Only those organizations, working with registered energy advisors, can issue an official EnerGuide rating.

Are home inspectors energy auditors?

Only if the company is a licensed service organization with registered energy advisors. Several inspection firms are, including AmeriSpec, The Home Inspectors Group, All Season Inspection and Sensible Home Inspections.

Where can I read reviews of Ontario energy audit companies?

Each provider profile on AuditYourHome links to that company's Google, HomeStars and BBB results, so you can read independent reviews before you book.
