Getting your usage history in Calgary

Most of Calgary is served by ENMAX Power for electricity and ATCO Gas for natural gas.

Alberta is a retail market: the distributor owns the wires and pipes, but you may buy the energy itself from a retailer. Your usage history sits with whoever bills you.

  • ENMAX Power: ENMAX Power (the wires company) doesn't bill homes, so usage history comes from your retailer's bills or online account, e.g. ENMAX Energy MyAccount for ENMAX retail and Rate of Last Resort customers. No distributor usage portal or Green Button found; the ENMAX MyAccount page only confirms bills and payments. Link

What the analysis shows

Calgary gets about 4,876 heating degree-days a year and has a winter design temperature of −26.2°C, according to NRCan's HOT2000 climate data for Calgary International. Weather-normalizing your bills against those degree-days separates heating from baseload (lights, appliances, hot water), so you can see how much of the bill a heating upgrade can actually touch, and compare a mild year with a harsh one fairly.

A standard format for downloading your own energy data. Ontario electricity utilities have been required to offer Green Button Download My Data since November 1, 2023.

Why weather-normalize bills?

A cold winter raises heating bills even if nothing about the house changed. Normalizing to heating degree-days lets you compare years fairly and measure real savings.
