The audit question

Audit required

Requires an initial and a follow-up EnerGuide assessment through one of the program's seven approved service organizations: AmeriSpec, Canada Energy Audit, Greenbrain, Energuy, Energy Werx, NRGwise or The Home Inspectors Group. Their advisors are NRCan-registered, but registration alone isn't enough — an assessment from any other company doesn't qualify.

Who qualifies

Ontario homeowners — not tenants — of detached, semi-detached, row or town homes, or mobile homes on a permanent foundation, who either heat mainly with Enbridge natural gas or are on Ontario's grid and heat with electricity, oil, propane or wood. Duplexes, triplexes, stacked townhouses, multi-unit buildings and homes occupied for less than 6 months don't qualify.

How to apply, step by step

Fill in the eligibility form on homerenovationsavings.ca. The program emails you its list of approved service organizations — you have to use one of these seven.
Book the initial assessment (about 2 hours) and pay the service organization. You get an EnerGuide rating and a report listing your recommended upgrades.
Hire contractors of your choice for at least two recommended upgrades. Nothing done before the initial assessment counts, and leave the ENERGY STAR labels on new windows and doors.
Book the follow-up assessment (about 1 hour) with the same service organization by November 30, 2026, for a visit no later than December 31, 2026 and within 180 days of the first.
Your advisor submits the file; you provide invoices and a property tax bill. Rebates arrive by e-Transfer within about 30 days, or by cheque within about 60.

The gotchas

Only the seven approved service organizations can deliver this path. An EnerGuide assessment from any other company won't unlock these rebates.
The $600 assessment rebate is paid only after you finish two or more upgrades, and only once per home.
Gas-heated homes are capped at $5,000 in total, including the $600, so they can't reach the full $7,700 insulation amount.
Two windows earn nothing: the minimum is three windows, or one door, skylight or patio door.
An electrically heated home that switches to oil, propane or wood before the follow-up assessment loses eligibility.
You can't claim the same upgrade from another Enbridge, Save on Energy or Ontario program, and rebates can't exceed what you actually paid.
Enbridge and Save on Energy don't sell by phone or door to door. Treat unsolicited "program" calls as sales pitches.
Sarnia-area homes: the program's online form still mentions Enbridge's Sarnia Saves pilot (up to $15,000) for N7S, N7T, N7V, N7W and N7X postal codes and Brights Grove, but Sarnia Saves closed to new applications in April 2026, and Enbridge now points those homeowners to Home Renovation Savings.

Worth knowing

Funding is only approved through 2026. The follow-up assessment must be booked by November 30, 2026 and completed by December 31, 2026 — or within 180 days of the first assessment, if that comes sooner. Starting now means booking the initial assessment within weeks and lining up contractors quickly. The program doesn't publish assessment prices: you pay the service organization up front and the $600 comes back at the end.

Common questions

Is the Home Renovation Savings assessment rebate still available?

Yes, as of October 2, 2026, but only for homes that can finish in time. The follow-up assessment must be booked by November 30, 2026 and completed within 180 days of the first assessment or by December 31, 2026, whichever comes first, and funding is only approved through the end of 2026.

Can I use any energy advisor for the $600 rebate?

No. You have to book through one of seven approved service organizations: AmeriSpec, Canada Energy Audit, Greenbrain, Energuy, Energy Werx, NRGwise or The Home Inspectors Group. Their advisors are NRCan-registered, but being registered on its own isn't enough.

Do community non-profits like Windfall or Reep qualify?

Not for this program. Windfall Ecology Centre, Reep Green Solutions and other NRCan-licensed organizations deliver official EnerGuide evaluations, often at published prices, but they aren't among the seven approved organizations, so their assessments don't qualify for the $600 rebate or the assessment-path upgrade rebates.

How much can I get in total?

Up to $5,000 per home if you heat with Enbridge natural gas, or up to $10,000 if you heat with electricity, oil, propane or wood — both including the $600 assessment rebate. Finishing three or more upgrades also earns a $500 bonus.

When is the $600 assessment rebate paid?

After the follow-up assessment, once at least two recommended upgrades are done. You pay for both assessments up front.

Can tenants apply?

No. Only the owner can participate, though an owner can apply for each eligible home they own.
