The audit question
Audit required
The Home Energy Evaluation is the program's front door — incentives pay only on upgrades the evaluation recommends, completed within 9 months.
Who qualifies
New Brunswick homeowners who register with NB Power's SaveEnergyNB and complete the Home Energy Evaluation; incentives follow the upgrades it recommends. Households with combined income under $70,000, whatever fuel they heat with, may get free upgrades, including heat pumps, insulation and ventilation, through the Enhanced Energy Savings Program, so check it first.
How to apply, step by step
Register with SaveEnergyNB online or at 1-800-663-6272.
Book the Home Energy Evaluation and pay the $99 + HST fee to the energy advisor; it covers the final evaluation too.
Complete any recommended upgrades within 9 months, keeping receipts and the ENERGY STAR stickers.
The advisor comes back for the final evaluation, which documents the work and sets your incentives.

The gotchas
- The 9-month clock starts at the evaluation, so don't book it until you're ready to do the work.
- Windows bought or installed before the initial evaluation don't count.
- Homes already at 3 air changes per hour or less at the first evaluation can't get the air sealing incentive.
- Oil-to-heat-pump advance payments are closed to new registrations (June 30, 2026); a contractor promising one is out of date.
Worth knowing
NB Power's oil-to-heat-pump advance payments closed to new registrations on June 30, 2026; paperwork for an advance had to be in by October 1, 2026, and participants must finish the work and the final evaluation by March 31, 2027 or repay the advance. The regular Total Home incentives, including heat pumps, continue. Insulation incentives need at least 20% of a building component insulated, and solar incentives ($200 per kW) are only for participants who enrolled by May 27, 2026.
Common questions
Is New Brunswick's Total Home Energy Savings Program still running?
Yes, verified against SaveEnergyNB on October 19, 2026. Registrations for oil-to-heat-pump advance payments closed June 30, 2026, but the evaluation-and-incentives program continues, heat pump rebates included.
How much are the incentives worth?
NB Power publishes them: attic insulation $0.40–$0.85 per sq ft depending on the R-value added, exterior walls $1.125–$2.25, basement walls $1.00–$2.00, air sealing $250–$550, ENERGY STAR windows and doors $50 each, a central ducted heat pump $1,500, a heat pump added to a furnace $1,000, geothermal $2,000, a mini-split $400 and a heat pump water heater $550. Your evaluation report tells you which upgrades qualify in your home.
Is there a free stream for lower-income households?
Yes. The Enhanced Energy Savings Program offers free upgrades, including energy-efficient heat pumps, insulation and ventilation, to homeowners with combined household income under $70,000, whatever fuel they heat with. A mini-split installed through the program comes with a 10-year warranty.
