WETT inspection

Also called: WETT · WETT-certified · Wood Energy Technology Transfer

A safety inspection of a wood stove, fireplace insert or chimney by a professional certified through WETT, Canada's wood-energy training association.

What it means

Wood Energy Technology Transfer Inc. (WETT Inc.) is a non-profit training and education association that serves as the national registrar for WETT-certified professionals. A Level 1 inspection is visual and covers most insurance and real estate needs; Levels 2 and 3 go further, with tools and, if needed, opening walls or chimneys. You get an official inspection report, not a certificate.

Why it matters in an audit

Insurers often ask for one when you buy a home with a wood stove or add one, and an audit that finds a wood appliance may recommend it before air sealing.
