CSA Group (Canadian Standards Association)

Also called: CSA · CSA standard

Canada's main standards organization; building codes, rebates and product labels often point to its standards, such as F280 for heating system sizing.

What it means

CSA Group, the Canadian Standards Association, writes many of the standards that Canadian codes, rebate programs and equipment certifications refer to. Two you'll meet around an audit are CSA F280, the method for sizing heating and cooling equipment (see heat-loss calculation), and CSA B415.1, the test of a wood stove's heat output, efficiency and emissions.

Why it matters in an audit

When a quote or rebate rule names a CSA standard, it tells you exactly what the work or the equipment has to meet, so ask the contractor to show it.
