The audit question

Audit required

The flagship $400 rebate is for the EnerGuide evaluation itself — a pre-retrofit evaluation through an approved service organization, with at least one upgrade planned within 12 months. Insulation and heating rebates run alongside.

Who qualifies

Manitoba homeowners — including owners of rentals and cottages — with active Manitoba Hydro residential service, in a home at least two years old and heated from September through May. For the evaluation rebate: complete a pre-retrofit EnerGuide evaluation through an approved service organization, plan at least one efficiency upgrade within the next 12 months, and apply within 90 days of your evaluation.

How to apply, step by step

  1. Book a pre-retrofit EnerGuide evaluation through one of Efficiency Manitoba's approved service organizations.

  2. Receive your evaluation reports (typically 2–3 weeks after the visit).

  3. Apply for the $400 rebate within 90 days of your evaluation, attaching the reports — and note your planned upgrade (at least one within 12 months).

  4. Use the report to claim the insulation and heating rebates on the upgrades themselves as you complete them.

  5. Income-qualified? Ask about the Energy Efficiency Assistance Program first — it can include a free evaluation and free upgrades.

The gotchas

  • The 90-day application window runs from the evaluation date, not from when the reports arrive — calendar it the day the advisor visits.
  • The rebate expects at least one upgrade planned within 12 months; a pure curiosity audit doesn't qualify.
  • Indigenous households: the First Nations and Métis streams have their own enhanced offers — check them before the general stream.

Worth knowing

Manitoba is one of the few provinces subsidizing the audit itself — the $400 covers most of a typical evaluation fee. With Manitoba Hydro's clean, cheap electricity, the evaluation's heat-pump math is friendlier here than almost anywhere.

Common questions

Is the Efficiency Manitoba $400 evaluation rebate still available?

Yes — active and verified against the official page on September 28, 2026. Complete a pre-retrofit EnerGuide evaluation through an approved service organization, plan one upgrade within 12 months, and apply within 90 days of the evaluation.

What does an EnerGuide evaluation cost in Manitoba after the rebate?

Evaluations typically run a few hundred dollars; the $400 rebate covers most or all of a typical initial visit, making Manitoba one of the cheapest places in Canada to get the real numbers on your house.

Do insulation rebates require the evaluation?

The evaluation rebate and the measure rebates are companion programs — the evaluation identifies and documents the work, and its report is the clean path into the insulation and heating offers. Practically: do the evaluation first; it's subsidized precisely so you will.
